And more problems ... Keywords: mono, monitor, hard disk Message-ID: <2370@idunno.Princeton.EDU> Date: 10 Sep 90 14:54:00 GMT Sender: news@idunno.Princeton.EDU Organization: Princeton University, Princeton, New Jersey Lines: 35 First many thanks to all those who replied to my question about the dead monitor! I finally brought it to an Atari dealer in Long Island (Island Computer) because I was around at that time (two weeks ago) and asked them to take a look at it. They did more (without asking my approval!): they replaced two capacitors (I don't remember which ones) because they were going to fail or something (I know they hadn't blown up because I smelled nothing when I opened the case). That costed me $64 and change (mostly labour, I guess). I probably should have looked into the Atari replacement policy ... Anyhow, when I came back my monitor was fine but I found another problem: my hard disk (SH204, 20Mb) has what I suspect is a blown fuse. I have no idea how that happened. When my monitor went bad I couldn't park the heads in the hard disk but that shouldn't have affected the electrical stuff inside (I guess). And I boxed everything right away and stored them in a (somewhat damp) garage for a week. And when I reconnected everything I found the blown fuse (I am not sure whether it was blown before reconnecting or was something that I did, but I certainly didn't hear any popping sound ...). Has anybody had to change a fuse in one of those boxes? I would appreciate any help! I also have some more questions, like: what is the (if any) 800-number of Atari? Does anybody know of an Atari dealer in the Princeton area, or in New Jersey for that matter? I tried calling a number in the back of a December '89 Atari Explorer but it has been disconnected. As always, thank you very much in advance! I hope I can contribute something more than problems to the net! Francisco Figueirido e-mail: tasayco@phoenix.princeton.edu or figuei@max.physics.sunysb.edu
