I've read the new version has a electroluminescent display. EL displays look great, but they're pretty power hungry to run on batteries. There was an article in Unix Today (20-Aug-90), stating that a San Diego based company, Research, Development and Innovations announced a battery powered SPARC called Brite Lite weighing in at 11 pounds and approx $10K for a high end configuration.
