Adobe Illustrator 3.0 can also convert a Type 1 font to an outline that can be manipulated (it does this by calling ATM 2.0, which is included with AI3. ATM has always had a programmer interface that allowed you to call ATM, feed it some text, and have it shear, rotate, etc. This is how TypeAlign works. Well, ATM 2.0 now adds the ability to convert a Type 1 font to an outline). AI3 has a number of really nifty new features. I've always personally felt that AI's drawing tools were superior to FreeHand. With the new text-handling features of 3.0, it's really a powerful drawing application. I've heard a rumor (that I can't confirm) that AI3 will print at high quality on QuickDraw printers. AI 88 is available from mail-order sources for ~$325, and the uprade to 3.0 is free (it'll probably ship sometime in mid-October). As for FreeHand 3.0 (a/k/a "RoadRunner"), don't expect it to be announced until the Seybold Conference on Publishing in early October... ///////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////// / Robert Hammen | Macintosh enthusiast & publishing guru, looking for a job / / hammen@ddsw1.mcs.com | 70701.2104@compuserve.com | GEnie: R.HAMMEN / /////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////////
