Apparently there is some difference in pinout between an external and internal FDHD, getting them confused fries the hardware - I know ! Specifically I have replaced the (broken) mechanism in my external 800K drive with a new FDHD, but I want to plug this into my Rapport box - I believe that some of the wires must be crossed to tell the drive that it is external and that it should not respond to signals meant for the internal drive. John Ps: the cable that comes with the 800K drive is short a few critical wires, -12V for a start.
