Hello.

I would like to create an MDEF in which each menu item was itself composed
of characters of different colors.  I have managed to get the basic elements
put together, but I have a few questions.

1. I cannot seem to understand the section in IM V which describes the work
   which is necessary in response to message 3.
2. I cannot make gray lines.  I have tried drawing with a (local) gray pattern,
   I tried PaintRect, neither made the line gray.

If someone knows where I can find the source for a reasonably complex MDEF which
handles message 3, I would appreciate a pointer.  I'm at a university, and I
don't have access to the developer's stuff.
