I'm no expert with Merge, but I do use it on my system at home.  I don't
have any problems with the mouse.  Are you sure you "attach" the mouse
com port to the dos process?  I don't have my manuals here with me, but
I think the command is something like:
dos +adcom1
(assuming you have the mouse connected to /dev/tty0)
