I have a related question. During the setup program of Word for Windows, I was offered the opportunity to install Symbol soft fonts in several sizes for my Laserjet printer. The program did the installation and deposited the files in a subdirectory called PCLFONTS. Instructions in the README.DOC file with WfW told me that to run with Windows 3.0, I had to replace the installed *.PFM files (presumably written for 2.x) with a new set of *.PFM from a special subdirectory on one of the WfW floppy disks. I did this. However, when I went to install the soft fonts through the printer setup series of dialog boxes, the on-screen information indicated that the soft fonts were TmsRmn, rather than Symbol. I installed the fonts anyway, and changed their name to Symbol so that they would not get confused with real TmsRmn fonts. The fonts appear in the font selector box in WfW, and seem to print fine from my printer. However, on-screen the fonts do not shows as symbols, but as ordinary letters. This is not a problem with the installation of the Symbol screen fonts, as these are installed correctly and if I use Write rather than WfW I see the symbols correctly on screen. Any help available? Is this a bug which is fixed in the recent update of WfW (which I have not yet got)? -- Bruce Dunn Vancouver, Canada a752@mindlink.UUCP
