I remember asking a telephone lineman when I was 10 years old or so, why open wire (in rural areas) sometimes criss-crossed. He said it was to prevent crosstalk and went on to explain how crosstalk occurs. At that time, it was a new concept for me, and I began to notice crosstalk EVERYWHERE!
