Thanks everybody who pointed to ispell-filter-hook-args under SysV.
Unfortunately my problem seems to start earlier, it already occurs
with ispell-word, which --- as far as I can see --- doesn't even 
use the filter. Anyhow, changing ispell-filter-arg-hooks doesn't
help.
Is there anybody out there using ispell under Emacs under Interactive
Unix? Or would somebody voluntier to try it?

Or any other hints???
