There have been several interesting papers on real-time OOP using Smalltalk in various OOPSLA proceedings (e.g. OOPSLA90) by Brian Berry of the Canadian Defense Research Establishment Ottawa. I think that the numbers Mr. Berry quotes are rather impressive in terms of productivity and reuse!
