I had similar problem once when I bought my NEC p6+. The characters sent to
to the printer also looked totally randomized. The problem lay
with a broken 8520 CIA which controls the parallel port and the timer.
So if games like EMPIRE or other programs which use the clock don't
work either...here's the place to look!
