After considerable experimentation and examination, I still can't make it do what I need. Here's a transcript of a session showing the parameter settings and the problem of not being able to use kermit because the line is not a typewriter (?!?): 3 srd> kermit C-Kermit, 4E(072) 24 Jan 89, Apollo DOMAIN/IX 4.2 BSD Type ? for help C-Kermit>show C-Kermit, 4E(072) 24 Jan 89, Apollo DOMAIN/IX 4.2 BSD, Communications Parameters: Line: /dev/tty, speed: -1, mode: remote, modem-dialer: direct Bits: 8, parity: none, duplex: full, flow: xon/xoff, handshake: none Terminal emulation: 7 bits Protocol Parameters: Send Receive Timeout: 10 7 Padding: 0 0 Block Check: 1 Pad Character: 0 0 Delay: 5 Packet Start: 1 1 Max Retries: 10 Packet End: 13 13 Packet Length: 90 90 Length Limit: 2048 1024 File parameters: File Names: converted Debugging Log: none File Type: text Packet Log: none File Warning: off Session Log: none File Display: on Transaction Log: none File Byte Size: 8, Incomplete File Disposition: discard, Init file: .kermrc C-Kermit>server /dev/tty: Not a typewriter C-Kermit>set line /dev/tty: Not a typewriter Sorry, can't open line: Not a typewriter C-Kermit>quit I _can_ use essentially the same version of Kermit on our campus HP mainframe running HPUX. The parameter settings are the same, in particular the line and the speed settings. I figure I must be doing something wrong which is specific to Apollos, so I address my question to fellow Apollonians. I am using a DN3500 under 10.2(BSD). Can somebody set me straight? Thanks!
