I was looking for a PC (or HP-UX - I think we can forget that) method of getting files to/from Apple ][ disks. The common consensus is that it will take special hardware (or serial port xfers - unfortunately, not possible). It seems that Apple ]['s (like Mac's) use variable speed (software controllable) drives. This leads me to my next 3 inquiries: 1) If anyone has experience with any board/drive combos that plug into a PC, I would appreciate hearing from you. How well does it work? How easy is it to use? Who makes it? How much did it cost? 2) In my attempt to become familiar with the Apple ][ (I currently know zilch), I got the Apple ][ emulator from Simtel (courtesy Randy Spurlock - thanks). Will any of these board/drive combos work with it? It would be nice if the Apple emulator could read/write real Apple disks. 3) Since the speed of the Apple drive is software controlled, could we go the other way? Is there a software solution that could give an Apple ][ the ability to read/write/format DOS disks? Thanks again to everybody who responded to my first request. And, thanks to all of you for letting me bend your ear again. Follow-ups are directed to me. -- Bruce Wehr (wehr%dptc.decnet@srlvx0.srl.ford.com) (...uunet!mailrus!sharkey!fmeed1!wehr) (wehr%fmeed1.uucp@mailgw.cc.umich.edu) Ford Motor Company - Electronics Division 17000 Rotunda Drive, ETC Room LN081, Dearborn, Michigan 48121 (313)845-3039
