Before I got my circa 1983 Apple ||e enhanced, it would lose a lot of characters on the modem. Apparently, its display ROM was a little too slow to keep up with the transmission (this is just a guess). The problem could be solved by enabling flow control (XON/XOFF) on the communications software, eg on Kermit 2.86 I would do >set flow xon >set flow delay 3c From what I understand, flow control just uses ^S and ^Q to keep the incoming data under control. I don't know if the DIP switches can set this. Someone else will have to jump in. BTW, I'm now happily punching away at an enhanced ||e, and there doesn't seem to be any need for flow control at all.
