Message-ID: <15500019@hpdmd48.boi.hp.com> Date: 18 Sep 90 14:53:53 GMT Organization: Hewlett Packard - Boise, ID Lines: 20 I tried posting this ounce, but didn't get any replies. My note probably didn't make it out. I'm running a DECstation 2100 with 8 Mb RAM and UWS 2.1. On this I have 2 Maxtor LXT-213sy disk drives. These drives are 3.5" 213 Mb disks which opperate in synchronous scsi. When I execute "time dd if=/vmunix of=/dev/null bs=8k" I find that I am only getting disk throughput of about 400k/second. Kind of slow. This is the same performance I was getting with non-sync drives. I found out about adding SCSI_TRYSYNC to the UNKNOWN entry in the scsi_data.c file and rebuilt the kernel, but I still get the same 400k/second. Will the machine I have go any faster than this? Will Ultrix 4.0 solve all my problems? I'm told that these disks are capable of better than 1Mb/second. Will I ever see it on my machine? Could someone who knows something about this please respond, I'm getting desperate. Thanks.
