A few days ago I flamed Microsoft about the poor quality of the 
multi-lingual dictionary package that you can get with Word 4.0. Since 
then two things have happened:

1. I have heard from a Microsoft employee that getting Word to work 
with more than one standard dictionary open is near the top of the 
list of priorities.

2. I have discovered that the dictionary package works OK with my 
English-language system software (now installed both at work and at 
home) which I had already had to hack up to work with my 
French-Canadian keyboard (sigh).

I'm still not happy, but at least I've stopped foaming at the mouth 
and kicking the cat...
