Ok, while I'm sitting here tasting my toes, I'll thank the people
who corrected a few of my erroneous facts on Type 3 to Type 1
font conversions...and now for the public:

o Fontographer 3.1 will read in Type 1 and write out Type 3 or Type 1.

o A couple people reported to me that they have problems with
  Metamorphosis converting Type 3 fonts.  Specifically they'll
  download the Type 3 font to the LaserWriter and then try to
  get the outlines/postscript/Fontographer file and it'll get
  a postscript error.  Can anyone who has Metamorphosis give
  us a breakdown of what it can and can't do?

So, it seems at the moment, there still isn't a way to convert
Type 3 to Type 1 fonts.  A combination of Metamorphosis AND
Fontographer should work, but at least no one who wrote to me
had successfully converted any.
