This depends on how you have configured your sendmail. It either uses
/etc/hosts
to resolve address or a nameserver. I had this same problem and I
resolved it by
adding domain names to all the hosts in /etc/hosts. I have heard that 4.51 has 
a much better sendmail.cf. There is a whole section in the 4.50 release notes
that I found very helpful.
