I have heard OSF state that UIL is required for a vendor to claim that
they ship Motif V1.1.  Hopefully someone from OSF will verify that.

Unfortunately, like object files, they are not portable.  There is
nothing done to account for differences in data representation, size,
and data structure layout of the data in .UID files.
