Do the translators DS> like Turbobraille and nfbtrans do any formatting? You are right that you can look at a BEX file and know what is happening. You can also produce print and braille from the same file pretty reliably, but the commands are not compatible with anything else. Turbo Braille does more with formatting then any of the other programs available now. We handle WordPerfect and WordStar as well as ASCII files directly and handle basic formatting attributes, paragraphing, centering, underlining, boldfacing. The program is not always perfect, but for day to day personal use, it does a great job. You can also go in and edit the "dot commands" should you need to get everything just so. NFB Trans, while easy to use overall, does not handle as many file types and does not do anything with formatting automatically. You must go in and insert the Tilde commands it uses.
