A couple of messages back I stated that Flipper had the fastest response time with the Dectalk, or at least it was the quickest according to an article in Newsbits and from what I could tell. Vocal-Eyes, however, did seem to have a higher speech rate overall.. Well, Doug posted that he was working on a new driver for the Dec which should give it a faster response, I got a copy of it just last night, and... Yep, there's a new top gun for the Dectalk! Using the new driver, the keyboard response is at least as fast as Flipper now with Vocal-Eyes, and add to this the higher speech rate, and you really got something! The one complaint everybody has always had with the Dectalk is its slowness, and honestly, I find this to no longer be the case! Sure, it can't respond and put out the speech rate of a Soundingboard or one of the other really fast synthesizers, but it ain't too shabby anymore when running Vocal-Eyes, and lets face it, it sounds pretty good! If you're running a Dectalk, or have a Dectalk available to you, I highly recommend you give Vocal-Eyes a look. Amazing the difference a little thing like a driver can make! Willie ...
