At 0445 local on 1 September 1939, the German Army crossed the Polish border to start World War II. I propose to post five messages next week describing the status of RAF, RCAF, USAAC, USN, and USMC forces on that day. (You may ask why I did not do this last year; the answer is that I did not get on the net until April of this year.) The five messages are: 1. The disposition, aircraft and unit codes of RAF combat squadrons on 1 Sep 39. 2. The organization, stations and aircraft of the Royal Canadian Air Force (RCAF) and U.S. Army Air Corps on 1 Sep 39. 3. The organization, stations and aircraft of the U.S. Navy on 1 Sep 39. 4. The ships of the U.S. Navy on 1 Sep 39 listed by status, i.e., commissioned, decommissioned, etc. 5. The organization, stations and aircraft of the U.S. Marine Corps on 1 Sep 39. Please let me know if there is any interest in this kind of stuff and perhaps I can something else for another date (like the Day of Infamy).
