Message-ID: <37520@ut-emx.uucp> Date: 23 Sep 90 22:31:25 GMT Sender: news@ut-emx.uucp Reply-To: greg@walt.cc.utexas.edu (Greg Harp) Organization: The University of Texas at Austin, Austin, Texas Lines: 40 I recently purchased a Tiny Tiger II SCSI interface and a separate hard drive for it. I recieved the interface Friday, and a look through the included disk yielded no evidence on how to low-level format the drive. A friend of mine who works for the local dealer says that in general, the drive must be low-level formatted with interface-specific software, and then formatted normally with AmigaDOS' "format" command (after the drive has been mounted with the correct # of cylinders, etc.). M.A.S.T.'s interface appears normal, excepting of course that it uses the parallel port (I know -- SLOW, but I have my reasons). They implemented it with a device driver. Other than that, the mountlist entry is normal. (FastFileSystem, etc) What I need to know, I guess, is if a hard drive maintenance program exists that is not interface-specific (i.e. it allows me to specify the device driver)... Does anybody know of such a program? PD/freeware/shareware is preferred, but if a commercial program does the best (only?) job, I'll go for it. Also, the drive I am getting is used. Will I _need_ to low-level format it? It's only a 20MB partition, so I won't want to partition it up or anything. I'm new to SCSI devices, but I know hardware/software pretty well (in case you're wondering on what level I need the answer to be). Replybyemailthanksinadvance! Greg Disclaimer: "Who me?
