The 1340A is an "Analog XYZ display". You need some type of "digital coordinate location and intensity to analog XYZ converter". HP used to make a product called the 1351A graphics translator. It's a vector generator: you download the vectors you want displayed over an interface (IEEE-1978 or custom parallel) and the 1351A translates the vectors into appropriate analog signals for the 1340A (among others). I don't know the current cost or obsolescence status of the 1351A. I suggest you call your local HP sales office.
