Boot the IBM PS/2 Reference Diskette for the model in question. When you get to the first menu of options, press one of the following (I forget which, the info is at work.), 1st try, crtl+A (^A), and you should get another menu. One of the items will include formatting the HD. 2nd, if 1st try above does not work, ALT+A, stuff about second menu above applies. I believe ^A is the one to use.
