As I understand it clearly 1157x852 (or whatever) is the std. NeXT geometry, but with 4MB VRAM on board, 1280x1024 (which I just happen to have a few monitors of this geometry) would be a tight squeeze (i.e., 1280x1024x32 x2[double buffered]).
