Pending the arrival of the (off-line) manuals, could someone
give short answers to the following questions:

1) How can I tell is a Mac session is running: I'd like to
   be able to wait until the session has got started (so I want
   to avoid busy-waiting if possible).

2) What is the ui_select trick which allows me to combine waiting
   for activity on a normal A/UX file descriptor as well as waiting
   for Macintosh events?

3) Will the world die if I arrange to fork then exec from an XCMD?
