DOS-BIOS supports only COM1 and COM2. Xenix isn't interested in the COM-port BIOS routines. It has special device drivers for the ports already built into the kernel. The kernel support for COM3 and COM4 is just commented out in the /usr/sys/io/sioconf.c - file.
