I have been reading both groups for quite some time now. When we first got our cockatoo I asked both groups where I should ask questions and was POLITELY referred to rec.birds with INDOOR on the header. Subsequently I asked a few questions, got some replies and even got in contact with others owned by a cockatoo :-) Nice situation, huh? I thought so! Then a few people in rec.birds started on tirades about pet bird people. Then a few people in rec.pets started on cat vs. dog folks. Now, people owned by birds have become paranoid about posting to rec.birds. I have tried posting to rec.pets. What happens? Basically nothing. No responses, since there everyone is interested in other pets. I have tried posting to rec.birds. What happens? Either nothing or referrals to rec.pets or flames. What happened to all the NICE folks that were happy to discuss pet birds? Neither group has SO much traffic that it's a bother to get some articles not interesting to you. Personally, I find them ALL interesting. Over the years I have had a variety of pets (dogs, cats, guinea pigs, snakes, rats) and currently have birds. I feed and am interested in the wild birds as well. I can't be the only one! Please, no flames. If you didn't like what I had to get off my mind, treat it like a pet bird article - ignore it!
