We just saw the gradual subsidence of a flame-war over this very topic. This group was originally intended for outdoor-type birdwatching, but it has some small traffic about indoor pursuits, usually labelled "INDOOR" in the topic line. There is a rec.pets group, but apparently birds do not figure largely in its bandwidth. I suggest you continue to post your questions here, but cross-post to rec.pets, and make sure to put the word "INDOOR" in your topic line....gotta go, now, and put on my asbestos underwear....
