I see that you are on INTERNET but for those of you on a VAX on BITNET you could try: SEND/COMMAND MSU CPQ NAMES and if they allow interactive queries the NODE "MSU" should return you the names of the people on line at that particular moment. You could try and substitute FINFUN for MSU and you will get the names of the people on the Finnish computer FINFUN. If I know a NODE I can usually find out who is on that machine and I can have a CHAT with them by doing SEND USERID@NODE and ask them to help me out in getting in contact with someone. I recently had an interesting CHAT session with Prof. Bruce Roe in the US. In the IBM world the equivilent command would be TELL USERID AT NODE. You can then exchange one line messages over BITNET.
