In order to not re-invent the wheel I better ask:

I would like to have filename (directoryname) expansion linked to the
"cd" command in the shell buffer similar to the Emacs "cd" in the
minibuffer. I'm pretty sure this has been done already. So, I would be
thankful for existing solutions.
