Actually, two questions:

1. Is the 16-bit word that represents a sample in the CD format (16 bit
   linear, 44.1 kHz rate, etc.) signed or unsigned?  If it signed, is the
   interval supposed to be [-1, 1)?  What is the "1"?  0 dB?

2. Is the Digidesign 16-bit linear format the same quantization scheme as
   the CD scheme?
