So far things seem fine. The vendor (Datalink) provided the drive with an installation manual for SUN workstations. Among other things the manual says that you must disable synchronous SCSI on the drive because the workstation won't recognize it at boot time if synchronous is enabled. They also have you shrink the number of sectors due to limitations of number of sectors addressable through SCSI 1. Does anyone out there know if either or both of these limitations applies to the Sparcstation? The manual sort of implies that this is a limitation of "some" SUN workstations.
