Subject: vms scsi tape problem

Has anyone got a Pertec FS2001 or similar scsi tape drive to work on a 
Vaxstation 3100 or similar running VMS 5.3 or so.  I reads and
writes ok but cannot do multivolume backups as it times out after 3 minutes
instead of issuing an operator request.  It is ok if you hang around and
chuck the tape in when you notice the first volume has been rewound.
I am using the standard mkdriver supplied by Digital.  Is there a patch?

I would be grateful for any help.
