The only reason CBM dropped the 1000 for the 500 is that they wanted something CHEAPER to produce. The 1000 cost too much to sell it for under $600. The 500 give CBM a larger profit margin. The 1000 was too middle of the road. CBM wanted a high and a low end machine. So they made a 2000 and a 500. The 500 is definatly NOT a souped up 1000.
