While the above is true about the current version of GNU-emacs on the amiga, I would suggest that anyone tries running gnu-emacs under a real unix computer with 16+ MByte of memory. You will find out that gnu-emacs is an extremly powerful and versatile editor. Emacs comes with 5-10 MBytes of script-files (in an lisp interpreted by emacs). These files are so powerful that they for most purpose almost obviate the need ever to enter the shell (not that I mind). Claiming that gnu-emacs is inferior to the lowly vi, is quite funny as there are not one , but two complete vi-emulations in script-files. So you can use emacs in vi-mode even while at the same time in other buffers and windows using the original emacs and having the advantage of all the emacs power. Only one last example: I am posting this from 'gnus' one of several nntp-based news readers (yes, they are nothing but script files in emacs lisp). 'gnus' is by far nicer than any other character/curses based new reader I have ever seen. So, please, before writing about something you don't have the foggiest idea about, PLEASE get informed. (I am convinced that at least some of the posters were actually talking about micro-emacs, never having seen anything else.).
