How can I send BinHex 4.0 #electronically# to someone who needs it?

I have used Kermit to upload BinHex 4.0 (in both binary and MacBinary
forms) to our HP 9000/835, but I can't uuencode either form!  The
uuencode program puts out one line:

	begin 644 binhex4

and then stops cold.  What's going on?

BTW: I must uuencode it because it has to go through e-mail.
