Keywords: Unix, StuffIt Message-ID: <1990Sep30.035543.24747@maths.tcd.ie> Date: 30 Sep 90 03:55:43 GMT Organization: Dept. of Maths, Trinity College, Dublin, Ireland. Lines: 24 I retrieved some *.sit files form a Unix site after uuencoding/uudecoding them. UnStuffIt didn't like the files, even after using ResEdit to change their type to SIT! On comparing the files with a file created with StuffIt, I discovered that the mailed files had 128 bytes at the start not present in the StuffIt file. These 128 bytes started with SIT!SIT! which I take to be the type and creator of the file. On excising these 128 bytes, I found that UnStuffIt would now work, although it complained about the header. As far as I could see, the files UnStuff'ed perfectly. My question is: Is there a utility to convert these mail files to proper StuffIt format? And how were they created in the first place? -- Timothy Murphy e-mail: tim@maths.tcd.ie
