I remember hearing that this can be a problem. What happens is that a smaller font size is scaled up to meet the new point size and so takes up proportionately more space in memory. It shouldn't fill up THAT much, though, unless maybe it causes heavy fragment- ation of memory (blocks scattered everywhere, with little space between each, although overall free memory is still sizable).
