We have been trying to move an RTF file, created using Mac Word 4.0.  After
bring the file to the NeXT (and giving it a name something.rtf) we tried
to open it in Edit, WriteNow, and Frame. Each time we failed, and the program
seemed to bomb.

Edit gave the error message Error: expected syle entry, 3longjmp botch.

WriteNow opened a window but put nothing in it. The console showed Error 0.
(Friendly error message, that.)

Frame ran its filter and the filter failed with a bus error.

Any suggestions?  Has anyone had problems like this.
