I have also asked this very same question to my NeXT salesperson.
He told me that there is no expansion slot for graphic board inside
the "slab" chasis.  This means that you won't be able to upgrade
by just plugging in a color board.

Now, depending on what your phrase "in the future" means, you may
be able to trade in your monochrome mother board for a color one
when you upgrade to the third release of the NeXT machine.
However, this is way in the future!  Please, don't quote me on this
one, because I don't work for NeXT.
