Would a BNF spec of SGML be considered as a "derived work", or a sufficiently "original work" with respect to the reg-exp style spec in the ISO docs? I, too, have found the reg-exp style more than a little hard to read and use. Joan Smith's User Guide helps a lot, but still retains the presentation style. Once I get a little free time and can take a break, I will look into the desirablity of representing the SGML in BNF, in more detail, and try my hand at doing some experimental work.
