In Science 222 (1983) p. 615 there is a short report; this is reprinted in "Theory and Applications of Cellular Automata" by Stephen Wolfram (World Scientific, 1986). The article includes some further references. The original article is in Nature 225 (1970) p. 535. Also, details of CAM implementation are found in Cellular Automata Machines by Toffoli and Margolus (MIT Press, 1987) on pages 82-84.
