You need a lot ... Hit spacebar for more info... The binder (/usr/lib/bind called by ld to do the work), need large amounts of paging space, somehow dependent on the total size of all your .a's. Our system has 48 Mb of core and 128 Mb of paging space - and we only allow one ld at a time. What happens is that the AIX kernel realizes that the paging space is too low and it starts killing processes, in your case the binder is killed, which frees up lots of paging space.
