Hi Xworld,
With reference to the Motif 1.0 "wierdness" posted yesterday,
I discovered that the problem was being caused by SIGCLD.
SIGCLD was being ignored prior to calling "system()" 
since system() does a  fork() ...exec()... wait()
naturally, system() was hanging causing the event loop for the 
application to be ignored!
