This is not correct, the GX provides a very significant speedup for
"BITBLT" operations.  It has a 16 pixel wide internal bus and function
unit, and plane mask hardware, so screen to screen operations are about
4-10x faster than on a dumb frame buffer.  Memory to screen operations get
a more modest but still worthwhile speedup.

Not that this has a lot to do with X.
