I didn't write the code, but we use it, and it does result in very
nice performance for color Suns that have a GX processor on them. 
This patch was used well before OpenWindows 2.0 even became available,
so while it is a hack, it made it bearable for those who wanted a
reasonable speed X11 server on their color Suns. No, it does not
affect non-Suns, since the code is only used for suns, and we have
not seen any problems using it.
