I don't think the Secstate person would want to come to the meetig at this stage, and I'm sure Secstate wouldn't want to fund a special link on one computer. I feel the best way to go is to expand our reach on the FIDONet backbone, and if secstate gets involved, they would help FIDONet in some way, especially in reaching less populated areas. I don't think there could be any funding for one board, or for a headquarters, so to speak. The advantage of FIDONet, for various kinds of users including ourselves, is the decentralized nature of decision making and resources. This, I see as a strengthi in the system, and should be worked with. It would be inadvisable to set up a system which was dependent on Secstate for assistance, especially as much of the discussion would be very critical of government, and there would be constant political pressure to drop funding. Besides, supporting FIDONet is not only good for our cause, but for many other groups who are concerned about various social issues, and who woill benefit by a strong and healthy and decentralized system such as FIDONet. We shoudl be joining with those other groups and helping each other, not trying to set up our own empire.
