Got it...now to convince the sys admin of the NNTP server to rebuild bnews/inews.
I don't think he wants to do it.

BTW...another NNTP server I use uses cnews, and it was patched appropriately.
Works fine now...but it doesn't have the fj.* groups I want to post on.
